ABOUT THE ROLE
Techno is seeking a Construction Inspector (Civil) to support ongoing infrastructure and capital improvement projects in the New York City region. This position focuses on overnight construction operations, providing inspection and construction management support across a range of civil and site work activities.
You will be based in the field, working closely with the Resident Engineer and project teams to monitor contractor performance, document construction activities, and ensure compliance with project requirements. This role is ideal for an experienced inspector who is comfortable managing multiple work areas and coordinating within active, high-traffic environments.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Perform field inspections across civil construction activities including concrete work, paving, drainage systems, and site utilities
- Monitor contractor operations to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, safety requirements, and agency standards
- Support inspection of infrastructure systems including hydrant fuel systems, structural elements, and maintenance of traffic setups
- Prepare daily reports, inspection logs, time and material records, and other contract administration documentation
- Review construction drawings and specifications, providing feedback on constructability and field conditions
- Track quantities and unit price work, and assist with verifying contractor payment applications
- Identify potential change order or extra work conditions and communicate findings to project leadership
- Coordinate multiple active work zones, including lane closures and utility shutdowns, with facility operations teams
- Perform quality assurance checks throughout construction and assist with final inspections of completed work
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and support a safe working environment across all shifts
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 10+ years of construction inspection experience on infrastructure projects of varying size and complexity
- Experience with civil/site work including paving, drainage, utilities, and structural components
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and contract documents
- Strong experience preparing field documentation including daily reports and inspection records
- Experience reviewing contractor payment requests, quantities, and contract compliance
- Ability to coordinate across multiple crews and active work locations
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interface with contractors, engineers, and facility staff
- Aeronautical or airport construction experience preferred
- Valid driver’s license required; ability to obtain a JFK SIDA badge required
- OSHA 30 certification required; additional safety training (MPT, excavation/trenching, fall protection) preferred
- Ability to work overnight and weekend night shifts

The expected salary range for this role in the New York City Metropolitan Area is $60 - $80 per hour. The total compensation, including salary and bonuses, is determined by various factors such as experience, skill level, location, and qualifications, which are evaluated during the interview process
